THE TESCO STORY

Our Story

Tescobar was started as a way to honor our family, our music, and our culture. We decided to name it "Tescobar" after my late abuelo, Tony Escobar. He was a wise, quiet but funny man, who understood the importance of a comfortable place to relax and have a beer!

We are a family of artists.

Many of us have creative hobbies or jobs. Maritza is a graphic designer by trade, but she can also sew, draw, paint, and cook just about anything from scratch! Engineer by day, musician by night - Ernesto plays three different instruments well. He can play about another half dozen more and is at least able to keep a tune! Music and dance has played a huge role in shaping us all into the people we are today.

We are a family of teachers.

My abuela taught in Puerto Rico for decades, and now she passes on her love, grace, and knowledge to the rest of her family. We understand that we need to care for others as well as this magnificent, bountiful planet we live on! He was an avid gardener and loved animals! He tended to his plants, his garden, his chickens and his cats with great care and respect. He met their every need, just as he did with his family. I look back longingly to those humid summers when my Abuelo Tony would surprise us with fresh fruits! He took the time to make us juice or delicately prepare it for everyone to eat.

our culture is rich, vibrant and should be celebrated. Celebrate with us at Tescobar Performance Center!

Our histories are told in our music, and others through dance. Music is one of the greatest expressions of Puerto Rican and Hispanic cultures. We want to showcase the old, the new, and the classics. We take pride in having some of the greatest artists in our community perform at Tescobar!

Music and dance are something that we believe extends through every culture, and every community around the world. Not only do we want to share our culture, but we created this space for others to be able to share theirs with us! Expressions of art surpass any arbitrary boundary or unfamiliar language. We know that everyone has a voice, and it is important and vital that they all be heard! We are all here on this earth together. We may have been born on opposite sides of this massive spinning rock, but we all share the same experiences of love, struggles, joy, and pain.

We are a family who recognizes the beauty in building a bond and community.

Family plays a huge role in all Hispanic cultures, and that's especially true for us at Tescobar. This is why we named it after my late abuelo. Abuelo Tony embodied the spirit of Hispanic and Caribbean culture, welcomed anyone he met as a brother, and always had fun doing it! We are a family that wants to create a place for everyone to be themselves, and we strive to ensure that Tescobar embodies all of these values! I don’t just mean literal family, because here at Tescobar, we're inviting ALL of you to come and be a part of this story, this community, and OUR family!
